Recently on February 9th, 2017 us students, have proposed a ban on single use plastic straws to the Environmental Commision Committee in Encinitas. With this ban we are adding to the already environmentally friendly city who recently banned polystyrene. With this ban we are trying to send a message to consumers to reduce their pollution footprint as well as changing their perspective on how much of an effect plastic has on the earth. By reducing plastic straws in one city it may not be enough to eliminate the pollution but we can prevent any further water contamination from plastic straws within our community. In addition to placing a ban in the city of Encinitas we plan to eliminate straws from California State University of San Marcos in order to make more students aware of the harm a small piece of plastic can really do.
